Eight Grade Graduation at Newbern Middle School
Newbern Middle School hosted its first Eighth Grade Graduation on Friday, May 22nd at 9:00 am in the school’s gymnasium. Mr. Percy Chastang, the adolescent health and youth development coordinator for South Health District and founder of local group Poetic Magic was the keynote speaker. Principal, Dr. Janice Richardson awarded 101 diplomas to Newbern’s 2009 eighth grade graduating class. The gym was filled beyond capacity with parents, friends, and family as they were entertained by the speaker, inspirational readings, and songs. Dr. Sherrell Newton, 8th grade administrator, delivered the farewell address encouraging the students to motivate each other to reach their high school graduation. Superintendent, Dr. Bill Cason also offered words of encouragement to the graduating class. Tears of joy filled the halls of Newbern Middle School as the 8th graders took their last walk through the 6th and 7th grade halls and said farewell to their former teachers. The 8th grade teachers, administrators, and staff congratulate Newbern’s 2009 graduating class!!
