W. G. Nunn Elementary and VSU
S.I.F.E. W.G. Nunn Elementary is having a “Robot Rodeo Round Up.” Members of VSU’s S.I.F. E. organization (Students in Free Enterprise) are visiting Anne Cardella’s 3rd grade gifted program students to create and program Lego Mindstorms robots. S.I.F.E. provides the Lego Mindstorms kits, software, laptop computers, and of course hands on help and direction. Students spent the first week assembling hundreds of Lego pieces to create the robots. At this time students are learning the ins and outs of the Lego software. They are programming the robots to go forward, turn, backup, and even speak! When student programmers have mastered the basics, S.I.F.E has developed an obstacle course for robot competition. Students will be challenged to program their robot to successfully follow the course. S.I.F.E. participates in many community service projects including L.A.M.P., Methodist Children’s Home, Ora Lee West and Hudson Dockett after-school programs, and also participates in national competitions with other S.I.F.E. groups. For more information on the program contact Jennifer Steedley at the Valdosta City Schools at 229-333-8500.
