Georgia's
Mobile Dairy Classroom Visits W.G. Nunn
Country came to town on Tuesday when Georgia's
Mobile Dairy Classroom made a stop at WGN. The
Mobile Dairy Classroom is an educational program
operated by the Agricultural Commodity
Commission for Milk.
The 30 ft. Mobile Dairy Classroom features a
fully operational milking parlor containing a
live cow used for milking and feeding
demonstrations. The program message is geared to
elementary school children, grades K-5. The goal
of the program is to provide children with a
better understanding of where milk comes from,
how it is processed, the healthy benefits of
consuming dairy products and dairy farmers'
management of natural resources.
The "field trip" was scheduled by Sally Nunn (WGN
1st grade), but separate presentations were made
for Kindergarten through 2nd grades.
The black and white spotted "Got Milk?" rig is
managed by former Georgia teacher, Ashley
Seamons, who is centrally located in Perry, GA.
She travels to elementary schools throughout the
state with various dairy cows (this one is
Molly) and her two dogs Abby and Lexi. Her
presentation included what cows eat and how they
live, how dairy farmers care for the
environment, how milk is processed, and how
dairy products fit into a balanced diet.
