2008 VHS Cheerleading Tryouts

Thank you for your interest in the VHS
Cheerleading Program. This packet contains
information regarding our tryouts for ALL VHS
squads for the 2008 – 2009 season. We currently
have four VHS squads: Freshmen (upcoming 9th
graders only), Varsity Basketball ( 10th
– 12th), Varsity Football (10th
– 12th), and Competition (9th
– 12th). You do not have to be a
member of a support squad in order to try out
for the Competition squad. You will be asked to
fill out a squad selection form during the
tryout clinic, and you will be given a chance to
ask questions before
making your choices.
All forms in this packet (including a current
PHYSICAL) must be turned in to Mrs. Hall in Room
113 or Miss Miller in Room 204 on of before
Tuesday, April 8th.
*******TO BE ELIGIBLE TO TRY OUT FOR VHS
CHEERLEADING, YOU MUST HAVE PASSED 5 OUT OF 6
CLASSES FALL SEMESTER.
Material:

Group Cheer—must include at least one toe
touch
-
Group Chant
-
Group Dance (60 – 90 seconds)
-
Individual Cheer—must include incorporation
of jump(s) and/or standing tumbling
-
Individual Jumps—toe touch is required plus
two other jumps and/or tumbling skills.

Tumbling—is not required, but is
expected by those wishing to try out for
the competition squad. Tumbling may be
substituted for one or two jumps. Points
will be awarded based on technique and
degree of difficulty. Please no cartwheels
or round offs unless they are part of a
tumbling series.
Practice will be from 3:00 – 5:00 PM on

You must wear athletic wear and tennis shoes
during practices.

Practices will be held outside of the lunchroom
by the Performing Arts Center, weather
permitting. Bring a hat, sunscreen, and your own
water.
**We
will check attendance and stretch/warm up from
3:00 – 3:30 PM. Instruction will begin promptly
at 3:30 PM. Middle school students need to
arrive and be ready to begin
NO LATER THAN 3:30 PM.
TRYOUTS ARE ON Thursday, APRIL 17, FROM 3:00 –
APPROXIMATELY 8:30 PM.
You must wear athletic shoes, black shorts or
skorts, and a white top. No jewelry, hair must
be up.
Once you complete your tryout, you will be free
to leave. Squads will be posted by 8 AM on
Friday, April 18th. A squad list will
be sent to Mrs. Lewis at Valdosta Middle School
and Mrs. Johnson at Newbern Middle School Friday
morning to be posted.
Tryouts and Tryout Practice are CLOSED to
family, friends, visitors, etc. Only tryout
participants, instructors, coaches, and
appropriate administrators are allowed inside
the tryout and practice areas.
