Sallas
Mahone celebrates Music in our Schools
Month
March has
been officially designated by the
National Association for Music Education
as "Music In Our Schools Month" (MIOSM),
the time of year when music education
becomes the focus of schools across the
nation. The purpose of MIOSM is to raise
awareness of the importance of music
education for all children and to remind
citizens that school is where all
children should have access to music. "Music
Touches Lives" is the official
slogan for MIOSM 2008. Sallas Mahone music
teacher, Amy Mason and her students
started the celebration with "Musart"!
The halls of SM are filled with
beautiful artwork related to the
music they have been working on in
class. Several of the pieces will be on
display at VHS prior to the MIOSM
concert on March 27th at 7 PM, where
several SM and other VCS students will
perform. The concert will take place at
Valdosta High School's Performing Arts
Center. This will be the very first VCS
Choral Extravaganza, and everyone is
encouraged to attend!
Speaking of concerts, The World's
Largest Concert (WLC) has
been the highlight of MIOSM since 1985.
As a sing-along concert that links
students around the world through music,
the WLC reaches an estimated 6 million
students, teachers, and music supporters
each year. This will be the third year
that SM has received recognition for
their participation in the WLC. The
concert was held Friday, March 14th at 1
PM in the gym. Ms. Mason gives
many thanks
to teachers, administrators, staff, and
parents for their time and for all their
support and encouragement during "Music
in Our Schools Month."
